The 2012 Harvest Fest is taking place at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills tomorrow, Saturday October 6, from 10AM to 3PM. The Harvest Fest includes live music, a farmer’s market, hayrides, farm demonstrations and family and adult workshops with food experts and farmers.
The live music is headlined by Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could. It just so happens that they are my granddaughter’s favorite group, and one that she’s already seen live twice! At Kidstock in August, Brady told us that he’ll only have a couple of the band members for this one, but it will still be great. They’ll be playing at 11AM and 2PM.
In the October spirit, there will be hayrides around the farm. The workshops will be on cooking, gardening and more. There will be demos of different farm happenings throughout the event. Story Pirates will provide theatrical entertainment at 10:15AM and 12:15PM. There’s also a raffle.
Another great thing to do while you’re there, especially if with kids, is to check out the chickens, sheep and other farm animals they have below the parking lot next to the barns.
There is a long list of vendors that are due to come, and according to the Stone Barns site, this isn’t even a complete list. It looks like it’ll be delicious!
Balthazar Bakery, BobbySue's Nuts, Brooklyn Soda Works, Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Equal Exchange, Green and Tonic, Irving Farm Coffee Roasters, Kelso of Brooklyn, Ladle of Love, Luke's Lobster, Mast Brothers Chocolate, Mile End Deli, Morris Grilled Cheese Truck, Organic Valley, Red Barn Bakery, Rick's Picks, Saxelby Cheesemongers, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Village Dog, and Whole Foods Market.
The Harvest Fest is rain or shine (in true farm fashion), and according to the weather report the morning looks nice, with a chance of isolated thunder storms starting in the afternoon. Hopefully they’ll miss Stone Barns!

"Dear Liz, Eric, Gregg, and the entire Schatz team,
Just wanted to drop a line to express our appreciate for the incredible job that you did for us and that you obviously do for all. In an age of impersonalization (is that a word?), you have found a way to create an atmosphere in which your clients feel like one of the family. We were confident that you would always do the right thing, even while keeping our interests foremost throughout.
Your projections on pricing were perfect, your marketing philosophy was very impressive, and your tireless efforts were astounding. We particularly liked the idea that you were selling Ossining as well as the house, and we feel that this contributed greatly to our success. In addition, the commitment to excellence you exhibited when you sold our first house has certainly been maintained over the years. Thanks again.
Love to all,"
